Federal Nonprofit Security Grant Program Includes Safety & Security Window Films

For more than 40 years, FEMA has helped people before, during and after disasters. FEMA is committed to building and developing a culture of preparedness across the country.

In support of FEMA’s mission, the organization is responsible for the administration of Federal funds to deliver numerous disaster and non-disaster financial assistance programs. One of these programs is the Nonprofit Security Grant Program (NSGP). The NSGP provides funding support for hardening and other physical security enhancements to nonprofit organizations that are at high risk of terrorist attack.

Safety & Security Film for Physical Security

One of the allowable costs under the program is equipment, specifically safety and security window film. Funding can be used for “the acquisition and installation of security equipment on real property (including buildings and improvements) owned or leased by the nonprofit organization, specifically in prevention of and/or protection against the risk of a terrorist attack.”

As a professional window film dealer and installer, this program presents an opportunity to help secure nonprofit institutions that may have otherwise not been able to afford Madico safety and security film. Safety and security films offer numerous benefits to these nonprofits such as 24/7 passive protection from flying glass shards if a window is impacted, bomb blast mitigation, intrusion resistance and more.

Many nonprofits, such as local places of worship, are unaware that this program exists. Reaching out to the property managers at these nonprofits, armed with information about this grant, is a great way to make them aware and introduce them to the benefits of Madico safety and security film.

Federal Funds Available

For 2019, the total amount of funds under this nonprofit security grant program is $60 million. Individual nonprofits can qualify for an award of up to $100,000.

The two allowable prevention and protection categories and equipment standards for the NSGP are listed on DHS AEL located on the DHS/FEMA site at http://www.fema.gov/authorized-equipment-list.

For more information regarding property management standards for equipment, please reference 2 C.F.R. Part 200, including but not limited to 2 C.F.R. §§ 200.310, 200.313, and 200.316.
