Each year about two million people in the United States are diagnosed with skin cancer. Yet skin cancer remains highly preventable, according to The Skin Cancer Foundation.May is Skin Cancer Awareness Month and Madico[reg] is reminding the public of the significant protection that residential and commercial window films can provide by blocking as much as 99 percent of the sun’s harmful UV rays. It’s estimated that the number of new melanoma cases diagnosed in 2019 will increase by 7.7 percent.
Sun damage causes 90% of all premature skin aging and wrinkles
The vast majority of melanomas are caused by the sun. In fact, one UK study found that about 86 percent of melanomas can be attributed to exposure to ultraviolet (UV) radiation from the sun.
Regular daily use of an SPF 15 or higher sunscreen reduces the risk of developing melanoma by 50 percent.
