Our Community Social Responsibility

Giving back to the communities that support us, through volunteerism, fundraising, and contributions.

Madico Cares

Madico Cares is our internal Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program encouraging employee participation in community-based volunteerism and fundraising. We have a CSR committee that, with the suggestions of others, decides what causes, charities, and other events employees get involved in that contribute to meaningful community support.

Madico Contributes to Fight Against COVID-19

As a U.S. based manufacturer, Madico is committed to doing all that we can to aid in the fight against COVID-19. As part of that commitment, we are currently exploring the best ways to contribute utilizing our Pinellas Park, Florida manufacturing facility.

At this time, we are making hand sanitizer in our factory and donating it to local first responders.  We have also donated the suits we utilize in our cleanrooms to be used as personal protective equipment.

We are shifting part of our production line to make lightweight, low cost face shields to supply to medical professionals. Madico engineers quickly developed over a dozen prototypes of the shield to determine the best one to produce in terms of costs and production time.

“One of our core values as a company is to help citizens in the community. We feel we should do everything we can to support community needs,” said Shawn Kitchell, Madico President and CEO.

Madico Employees Walking to End Alzheimer’s

The Alzheimer’s Association Walk to End Alzheimer’s is the largest event to raise awareness and funds for Alzheimer’s care, support and research. Held annually in more than 600 communities across the country, more than 450,000 participants are united in a walk designed to raise awareness and increase needed dollars to support the fight against Alzheimer’s.

2019 is the fifth year that Madico has participated in The Walk. Thanks to our wonderful donors, we raised $9k, which beat our fundraising goal. The Madico team, with the addition of some volunteers, completed a 2-mile walk on October 12, in St. Petersburg, FL. During the Walk opening activities, participants are asked to choose a Promise Flower with a color representing their reason for walking. At the end of the walk, these flowers are planted in a Promise Garden, the promise being the end of Alzheimer’s.

Alzheimer’s disease is the sixth-leading cause of death in the U.S. Currently, more than 5.7 million Americans have Alzheimer’s, and that number is expected to grow to as many as 16 million by 2050. More than 16 million family and friends provide care for people with Alzheimer’s and other dementias in the U.S. In Florida alone, there are more than 540,000 people living with the disease and more than 1.1 million caregivers.

The Walk to End Alzheimer’s is more than a walk. It calls on participants to unite in a movement to reclaim the future for millions.

Madico Got Our Nose On!

Madico joined the rest of the nation and got our NOSE ON for Red Nose Day, May 23, 2019! Created by the nonprofit organization Comic Relief, Red Nose Day was created to build awareness, FUN-raise, and donate money to support children in need across the globe. Since its launch in 2015, Red Nose Day has raised nearly $150 million through the support of millions of generous Americans, hundreds of celebrities, many outstanding partners and of course the sale of iconic red noses. People across the nation and around the world are encouraged to take part, raise awareness, and share a laugh.

In addition to supporting many of the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals, funds from Red Nose Day have helped over 16 million children worldwide, giving them access to clean water, food, medical services, vaccines, shelter, educational support, and more. The programs supported through Red Nose Day aim to address the immediate needs of children in need, break the cycle of poverty, and create hope for a better future.

Madico’s Service Centers around the country, as well as Corporate Headquarters in Pinellas Park, Florida, were proud to participate in Red Nose Day and raise money for such a worthy cause!

CASA – Holiday Toy Drive

Each holiday season, Madico holds a toy drive to benefit CASA (Community Action Stops Abuse). Other important items such as toiletries, clothing, and used cell phones are also collected to benefit everyone at the shelter. The toys are wrapped and given to kids residing in the shelter with their parent. Toiletry items are also given to residents in the shelter program. Used cell phones are reconditioned by volunteers and set up for clients to use for emergency communication.

Madico has been supporting CASA for several years now and our efforts have helped make a difference in the lives of the people the organization assists. CASA provides safety, empowerment, and prevention programs to help domestic violence survivors and stop the generational cycle of violence.

Birthday in a Box – Party Supplies for Homeless Children

March 2018

Birthday in a Box (BIAB) was created in 2002 to serve homeless children in domestic violence shelters, scattered sites, motels, and other locations. The program allows birthday wishes to reach homeless children in almost any living situation and provide them a joyful birthday experience, by delivering party supplies packaged inside a brightly wrapped box to families so they are able to celebrate their child’s special day.

Our Woburn, Massachusetts, location came together for a second time to support Birthday in a Box (BIAB), which sets a goal of delivering 200 Birthday Wishes a month.

Tampa Bay Watch – Coastal Cleanup

March 2017

Tampa Bay Watch participated in the Great American Cleanup by conducting a coastal cleanup in various areas of Pinellas County, Florida. The organization sees the cleanup as an important way to help eliminate human-generated trash and marine debris that floats onto Tampa Bay and the Gulf of Mexico shorelines.

Three Madico employees participated in the cleanup at Cunningham Key: Sharon Bolling, Adele Rynerson, and Jobi Gagnon. Cunningham Key collected 445 pounds of trash, while the five sites in our area combined collected over one ton of trash!

Red Nose Day – End Child Poverty

May 2018

Red Nose Day is a mission to end child poverty – one nose at a time – with all money raised supporting programs that ensure children in need are safe, healthy, and educated. Half of the contributions are spent in the United States on projects close to home such as Boys & Girls Clubs of America, Children’s Health Fund, Feeding America, the Vaccine Alliance, and Save the Children.

All Madico locations, including VDI, put “Noses On” to help end child poverty.
